Preventing Youth Homelessness in Canada – The Way Forward

In Canada, our approach to youth homelessness has primarily focused on emergency responses, meaning that we largely respond only after a young person is on the streets. As a consequence, young people experience profound avoidable suffering that shapes the rest of their lives. It is time for a new approach to youth homelessness – one that is proactive, not reactive. In this webinar, we discuss a new Canadian Observatory on Homelessness and A Way Home Canada resource – The Roadmap for the Prevention of Youth Homelessness. Authors Stephen Gaetz, Kaitlin Schwan, Melanie Redman, and David French discuss what youth homelessness prevention is, what it isn’t, why prevention matters, and what it would take to adopt and implement a preventative approach to youth homelessness in Canada.
