Introducing Youth Reconnect

Online training on the Youth Reconnect program model for youth homelessness prevention for young people aged 13-24 at risk of homelessness.

This training is an introduction to Youth Reconnect (YR) — a community-based program model for young people aged 13-24 who may be at risk of experiencing homelessness. You will learn how YR programs engage young people and their families to prevent youth homelessness and strengthen school participation.

Youth Reconnect incorporates Housing First for Youth (HF4Y) philosophy and Family and Natural Supports (FNS) principles to promote housing stability and enhance school engagement for youth at risk of experiencing homelessness. 

Learning goals

After taking this training, you will be able to:

  • Recognize unique experiences of youth at risk of homelessness or school dropout
  • Describe root causes of homelessness and housing instability among young people
  • Identify key elements and objectives of youth- and family-focused early interventions to keep youth in place and connected to family and community
  • Describe  strategies to build school partnerships and community resources 
  • Apply light touch interventions to support young people’s autonomy and decision making 
  • Consider organizational readiness and capacity to provide a strengths-based, youth and family focused, early intervention program.
